Disaster Relief & Transitional Housing

A real home, ready when you need it most.

When fire, flood, or storm takes a home, families need more than a trailer. Cocoon delivers comfortable, dignified homes — fast — so you can stay close to your community while you rebuild.

Rebuilding is hard enough. Finding a place to live shouldn't be.

We've worked with families across the West who've lost their homes to natural disasters. Our homes give them a stable, comfortable place to live — for a year or for five — without feeling like they settled for something temporary.

Fast to deploy

Stock units can be delivered and set up in days when available; custom builds in weeks. We prioritize disaster-recovery families whenever we can.

A true home, not a trailer

Full kitchens, real bathrooms, comfortable sleeping space, and durable construction with better insulation than temporary trailers.

Placed on your land

In most cases we can set the home right on your property so you can stay close, watch the rebuild, and remain in your own community.

Fully off-grid capable

Livable on day one — even before utilities are back

When infrastructure is damaged or offline, a Cocoon is still a home. Each unit is built to run self-contained, so families can move in right away instead of waiting for the grid.

Power — 50-amp generator hookup, with optional solar + battery storage
Water — onboard holding tank, refilled as needed
Sewer — integrated grey and black water tanks, plus composting toilet options
Once infrastructure is back online, every Cocoon is built to transition seamlessly to permanent utility connections — city power, water, and sewer, or well and septic.

Questions from disaster survivors

The journey after a disaster is overwhelming. Here are the answers we hear families ask most.

How quickly can I get a home ready to live in?
Timelines depend on whether you choose a stock model or a custom build, but we understand the urgency and prioritize disaster-recovery families whenever possible. If your property is ready for placement, setup is quick — and from our growing fleet of move-in-ready rentals, a home can sometimes be delivered and set up within days.
Will it feel like a real home, or just a glorified RV?
A true home. Full kitchens, real bathrooms, comfortable sleeping spaces, and thoughtful layouts for everyday living. Our goal is for you to forget it was ever meant to be "temporary." Across the West and around the world, people live in tiny homes full-time by choice — our designs prioritize long-term livability and comfort.
Can the home be placed on my property while I rebuild?
Yes — in most cases we place the home directly on your property so you can stay close and monitor the rebuild. If your site isn't ready due to debris, grading, or utility repairs, we can arrange short-term placement elsewhere until it's prepared. In some areas, the city or county may have designated land available for your Cocoon.
What if my property doesn't have full hookups yet?
We have solutions for that. Our homes adapt for off-grid or semi-off-grid living while utilities are restored — water tanks, generators, solar with battery storage, and composting or incinerating toilets if sewer or septic isn't ready. We'll walk you through what's required and help you choose the right setup.
How do the rentals work?
Our rental homes are a managed, mobile fleet — fully furnished and move-in ready. Many qualify for assistance through FEMA, insurance, state/local programs, and nonprofit grants. Leases are typically 12 months with 6–12 month renewals. To qualify, applicants must have lost a home in a natural disaster, meet standard tenant qualifications, and follow tenant standards. We handle transport, setup, and removal.
Are your homes safe and durable for my area's weather?
Yes. Our homes are engineered for everything from heavy mountain snow loads to desert heat, and have stood strong through windstorms, coastal rain, and deep freezes. For severe-weather areas we can upgrade insulation, roofing, and anchoring to match your environment — coastal, rural, or high-elevation.
What happens when I move back into my rebuilt house?
You have options. Sell it — many families recoup much of their investment by selling to another family in need. Keep it — as a guest house, office, or rental for extra income. Move it — to a vacation property or other land. Our 100–500 series are all built on trailers; if you'll move often, the 100 Series (8.5 ft wide) travels easiest without oversize permitting. For rentals, we arrange pickup when the lease ends.
Do you work with governments and nonprofits?
Absolutely. Partnering with federal, state, and local agencies and nonprofits is central to delivering housing at scale. Multiple units or whole communities create economies of scale that lower costs through shared materials and repeat labor. If you're with an agency or nonprofit, reach out. For individuals, gathering letters of interest (LOIs) from your community is a powerful way to get a government's attention.
